Young man dies after being unable to afford medication: Family sues company and pharmacy

In the United States, it is alleged that 22-year-old Cole Schmidtknecht died because he could not afford the asthma medication, the price of which increased by approximately $500 per dose. The young man’s family has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer and the pharmacy that sold the medication.

In Wisconsin, Shanon and William Schmidtknecht claimed that their 22-year-old son, Cole Schmidtknecht, died because he could not afford the asthma medication, the price of which had been increased. The Schmidtknecht couple filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer and the pharmacy for raising the price of the asthma medication from $66 to $539, alleging that it led to their son’s death.

USED A CHEAPER MEDICATION Instead of purchasing the “Advair Diskus” medication that asthmatic Cole Schmidtknecht had been using for approximately 10 years, it was mentioned in the case file that he opted for a much cheaper alternative at the pharmacy on January 10, 2024, when the price increased by around $500. According to the file, after using the cheaper medication, Cole Schmidtknecht’s condition deteriorated, and he passed away on January 21, 2024, after being admitted to the hospital.
