Zelenski Calls for Increased Sanctions on Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski emphasized the need for decisive measures to end the Russia-Ukraine War, calling for the escalation of sanctions against Russia. Zelenski stated in a written statement on his social media account that he addressed the online meeting where world leaders discussed Ukraine in the UK, highlighting that Russia needs to take steps towards peace. He urged world leaders who used the phrase “Decisive measures need to be taken to at least initiate the end of the war. This includes sanctions” to increase sanctions against Russia. Zelenski claimed that Putin lied about the developments in the Kursk region, stating, “The encirclement of Ukrainian military personnel in the Kursk region is not true.” Zelenski expressed uncertainty about the details of the ceasefire talks between US and Russian officials in Moscow, accusing Russia of prolonging the process to pressure Ukraine. Reiterating the need for the formation of European armed forces, Zelenski emphasized that Putin does not have the right to decide on the deployment of foreign military units in Ukraine and that strengthening defense capabilities for Ukraine and the whole of Europe could be achievable within 3 years.
