Zelenski: Expecting Unconditional Ceasefire in the Black Sea Area from the United States

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, stated that the United States should pressure Russia for a ceasefire in the Black Sea region. Zelenski spoke at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris. Evaluating the talks in Saudi Arabia aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine War, Zelenski noted that despite the ceasefire decisions taken there, Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine. Emphasizing the need for stronger joint actions for the war to truly end, Zelenski stated that a ceasefire in the Black Sea area is necessary. He mentioned that Russia has started to discuss additional conditions for establishing this ceasefire and expressed the expectation for the American side to ensure unconditional tranquility at sea. Responding to a question about Russia demanding lifting of sanctions in exchange for securing a ceasefire in the Black Sea, Zelenski reported that sanctions were not discussed between the Ukrainian and American delegations during the talks in Saudi Arabia. Zelenski also mentioned that in his bilateral meeting with Macron, they discussed issues related to Ukraine receiving more French Mirage 2000 jets. Touching on the possible deployment of foreign troops in his country under security guarantees, Zelenski noted that this could be important to prevent Russian attacks. He emphasized that if peace forces were deployed in Ukraine, their primary task would be to control the situation on the ground, stating, “No one wants to drag any country into a war. Quotas are crucial for control.” Zelenski announced that discussions on this topic would take place at the Ukraine summit to be held in Paris.
