Zelenski: Hundreds of Chinese in Russian Army

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said they have information that hundreds of Chinese citizens are fighting against his country in the Russian army.

Zelensky addressed participants via video conference at the “Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (Ramstein) 27th Meeting” held at NATO headquarters in Brussels. He noted that he sent a message to the conference during his visit to the city of Kriviy Rig, where the Russian army carried out a ballistic missile attack on April 4. Zelensky stated that Russia continues to launch ballistic missile attacks on their country and emphasized the need for more effective air defense capabilities. He particularly mentioned the necessity of Patriot air defense systems, stating, “We need 10 Patriot systems. The free world has them.” Zelensky also highlighted that “HUNDREDS OF CHINESE FIGHTING AGAINST UKRAINE” and noted that Russia has now started to include Chinese citizens in its army, stating, “We now have information that at least hundreds of Chinese citizens are fighting as part of the Russian occupation forces. This means that Russia is openly trying to continue the war. Even at the cost of Chinese lives.” He called on allies to increase pressure on Russia and emphasized the need for more investment in Europe’s defense industry. Zelensky also reported that they continue to work with partner countries on the deployment of foreign troops as a peacekeeping force under security guarantees.

FOOTAGE OF THE PRISONERS’ INTERROGATIONS REVEALED

A video of Chinese soldiers being interrogated was shared on social media by Zelensky. The soldiers, speaking in Chinese, talked about their backgrounds and how they were captured. One of them mentioned that it was his first time in combat, saying, “I had never even fired a gun before this.” Another soldier, who was part of a group with two other Chinese soldiers before they parted ways in chaos, said, “Everyone scattered, I don’t know if they are dead or alive.”

RESPONSE FROM CHINA

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian advised the relevant parties to understand China’s role correctly and refrain from making irresponsible statements. Jian stated, “China is neither the creator nor the party involved in the Ukrainian crisis. We are a loyal supporter and active advocate of a peaceful resolution of the crisis.” According to the statement, China is urging its citizens, especially to refrain from participating in any military operations of any party.
