Zelenski: We Will Not Recognize the Regions Occupied by Russia as “Russian Territory”

President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, emphasized that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of his country are red lines and stated that they will never recognize the regions occupied by Russia as “Russian territory.” Zelenski evaluated the developments regarding the Russia-Ukraine war during a press conference held within the framework of the 61st Munich Security Conference (MSC 2025) in Munich, Germany. He mentioned that he would also meet with the US Vice President, JD Vance, as part of the MSC 2025, and reminded that he had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump two days ago. Referring to recent statements by Trump and some senior US officials about Ukraine’s integration with NATO, Zelenski claimed that the US is not ready to discuss Ukraine’s NATO membership today. Stressing that integration with NATO is currently the easiest solution for Ukraine’s security, Zelenski noted that they need strong security guarantees. Zelenski emphasized that they will continue to engage with the US on the necessary solutions and security guarantees to fairly end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Highlighting that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine are red lines for them, Zelenski said they will never recognize the Ukrainian regions occupied by Russia as “Russian territory.” “1.5 MILLION SOLDIERS NEEDED TO PREVENT RUSSIA’S ATTACK” Zelenski mentioned that unless Ukraine becomes a NATO member, they will need an army consisting of 1.5 million soldiers to prevent Russia’s attacks. Based on intelligence from Ukraine, Zelenski claimed that Russia is planning to prepare 15 divisions consisting of 100-150 thousand soldiers, including in Belarus, indicating the possibility of Russia preparing for war with NATO countries. COLLABORATION WITH THE US ON MINING RESOURCES Zelenski recalled that the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent presented him with a draft agreement in Kiev two days ago to collaborate on mining resources in his country, and after Ukrainian legal experts worked on it, they submitted the document to the US side. Furthermore, informing about the latest situation on the front line towards Pokrovsk city in the Donetsk region, where the hottest conflicts are concentrated in Ukraine, Zelenski stated, “It is important to note that the situation in the Pokrovsk direction has improved in recent days.”
