Zelensky-Trump Banners in the Streets of Tehran: “The End of a Dream”

Banners depicting the heated Oval Office dispute between US President Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart have been hung all over the streets of Tehran. These banners highlight criticisms by Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei regarding Ukraine’s dependence on the US.

The intense argument between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky continues to make headlines around the world. The streets of Tehran, the capital of Iran, are adorned with photos of the moments of this fight. The banners feature phrases like “The end of a dream” and “Leaning into the wind,” making references to Ukraine’s ties with Washington. The campaign emphasizes the claims of Iranian conservatives that the Trump-Zelensky conflict has validated Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s ban on negotiations with the US. The Trump-Zelensky argument escalated during a meeting aimed at finalizing a mineral deal that would grant the US access to Ukraine’s rare earth elements. Seen as a potential move towards a ceasefire between Russia, a long-time ally of Tehran, and Ukraine, this deal came shortly after the Oval Office conflict. Soon after the office dispute, Khamenei’s office reiterated its statements from 2022, stating that relying on the US was a mistake and Washington could not be trusted.
