Zelensky’s Comment on Trump – Putin Meeting: Negotiations Without Ukraine Are Ineffective

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the expected phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders reached an agreement to work quickly on a ceasefire in Ukraine. Zelensky expressed his desire to speak with Trump about the phone call, stating, “I believe that negotiations without Ukraine will be of no benefit.”

During a video conference, Zelensky expressed skepticism about Putin’s stance, answering a question about whether he would adhere to a 30-day ceasefire regarding energy infrastructure and his thoughts on the relationship between Trump and Putin by saying, “It’s hard to say. It’s difficult to answer this question in terms of the relationship between President Trump and Putin. I believe I will have a meeting with President Trump. We will understand the details. We have always supported no weapons being used against a ceasefire and energy infrastructure. We have also supported no attacks on sea corridors.”

“These were our suggestions. We will support any proposal that leads to stable and fair peace,” said Zelensky, addressing negotiations without Ukraine and emphasizing, “Therefore, I believe that negotiations without Ukraine, who are part of this conflict, will be of no benefit.”

Zelensky expressed eagerness to speak with Trump, acknowledging Trump’s busy schedule but stating, “When he has time, he can always call me. He has my phone number. We are ready to discuss the next steps eagerly.”

Regarding Putin’s alleged plans for aggressive operations in Ukraine’s Zaporizhia region, and the Sumy and Kharkiv regions near the Russian border, Zelensky claimed, “Putin wants to carry out a few aggressive operations. He will try to do this. For what? To exert maximum pressure on Ukraine. When will it happen? Believe me, he will try to do this within the next few months.”

Zelensky also mentioned Putin’s efforts to halt military aid to Ukraine, stating, “He saw that the US could take steps to stop (military aid and intelligence sharing) and therefore brings up issues that he thinks will be in his favor. It has happened before, why not do it again? However, this once again means weakening the Ukrainian army.”

Despite this, Zelensky expressed hope about military aid, saying, “I believe that military aid will continue. We receive support from both the United States and our European counterparts. We are in constant contact with them. I am sure that our partners will not betray us and that the flow of military aid will continue.”
